An Update on the DOE's Refrigeration Regulations

On July 10, the new Department of Energy standards took effect for medium and low-temperature walk-in evaporator coils and low-temperature condensing unit systems.

These changes translate to manufacturers of refrigeration suppliers like RDT, requiring us to meet all DOE standards for any manufacturing complete after the July 10 date.

Here at RDT, we're ahead of the game. Our solutions will help any walk-in cooler or freezer under 3,000 square feet meet regulations (units above this square footage are excluded from the new standards). The projected energy savings from these changes is about 25 percent over the course of the next 30 years.

To maintain compliance, RDT has passed AWEF (Annual Walk-in Efficiency Factor) testing on our condensing units and we have changed our evaporators to be more energy efficient. They're a bit larger than previous versions to create more surface area on the evaporator. This leads to less work required by the unit for greater results.

For foodservice operators, you're in standing to experience this energy savings, which directly translates to lower the costs of operation.
