One of our most popular series here on the blog is Meet Our Team. We love introducing our team members to let everyone get to know them and showcase how they make RDT the company that is. This month we're talking to our Project Manager, Brandon Colton.

Brandon has been with RDT for three years and brings a lot of insight into quality control, along with thoughts about innovation in refrigeration and how he relaxes outside of work.

How did you get started in the commercial refrigeration industry?

Three years ago, my wife had an opportunity to advance her career here in Texas, so we made the move. While searching for a position, I found one at RDT as a quality control technician. For the previous five years before we moved, I was working in quality control for an original equipment manufacturer in the petroleum industry. There are a lot of parallels between the positions, so it was a good fit.

Can you walk us through a typical day in your job at RDT?

Recently, I accepted a new position within RDT, where I moved from being the Quality Control (QC) Lead to a position that also incorporates being a Project Manager. I start my days walking the floor saying good morning to our QC technicians and anyone I pass by along the way. While talking with the QC technicians, I answer any questions they may have. I also provide them with a priority list for the day I received the day before and take inventory of where jobs currently area. After getting the situation on the production floor, I 'hit the books' in training for my new position.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

Communicating with others and looking for new solutions in a complex environment. The most important rewards for me are the opportunity to do the highest level of work in alignment with my abilities and how I deliver on my projects.

Do you have a particularly memorable project or experience from your time at RDT?

There was a job that had several large racks that had to be completed in an extremely tight time frame. This job was full of challenges that had to be overcome by both our Production and QC teams, but we worked together to meet the demands that were set by the customer and corrected any problems that arose along the way. The project spanned about six weeks in total, and I feel good about the quality of the product that left RDT.

What role does innovation play in the refrigeration industry?

Innovation helps to close any gaps in the industry as far as customer needs or desires with refrigeration systems while simultaneously bringing a better end product at hopefully a better price for the customer.

Do you have a favorite restaurant you love to go to?

Parry’s Pizza in Dallas is definitely high on my list of places I like to go when given the opportunity, they combine great pizza with a large local craft beer selection.

What’s your go-to order at that restaurant?

My wife and I usually split a BBQ chicken Pizza, and I usually try a beer I have not tried before.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

You wouldn’t know it currently, lol, but I enjoy exercising and weightlifting. I also enjoy fishing, finding new restaurants, and doing activities with my wife and daughter.

Anything on your bucket list you'd like to accomplish?

Going on an African safari would be high on this list!
